How do foreign investors assess the Hungarian markets? (x)

Portfolio.hu has always considered it one of its key missions to present how global economic events and local economic policy affect business life. In the current environment, we believe, this mission has just become even more important. Therefore after the hugely successful Budapest Economic Forum we have decided to organise a half-day event: ‘The Forint, the Crisis and Public Debt’. At this conference several international and Hungarian macroeconomic and corporate experts will share their views on the prospects of the Hungarian economy.

Due to the deepening debt crisis and the erosion of confidence in Hungary’s economic policy, the forint has recently eased to record lows. The preparatory talks on financial assistance for the country with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the European Commission broke down in December 2011, while Hungary's general government debt rose further. So what can we expect from the Hungarian economy? And which way could the forint swing? At Portfolio.hu’s half-day conference, local and foreign decision makers, economists, analysts and corporate leaders will share their views about the deterioration of Hungary’s growth outlook and its consequences and also on the future of the national currency.

Renowned Hungarian and international policymakers, economists, analysts and corporate leaders are regular guests at our events. At the Budapest Economic Forum last October they discussed the triggers and consequences of the crisis; the future of the eurozone and the outlook on Hungary. The speakers included András Simor, Governor of the National Bank of Hungary (NBH); István Székely, one of the top economists in the European Commission; Zsolt Darvas, Research Fellow at the Bruegel Institute in Brussels; Piroska Nagy, Strategic Director at the EBRD and Peter Attard Montalto, Emerging Market economist at Nomura in London. We have had similar events to the current half-day conference previously. We have organised several such venues where the experts had a chance to share their views about the forint market - its present and future.
