There are currently 7,598 coronavirus patients being treated in hospital, with 638 of them in severe enough condition to warrant artificial respiration. As Chief Medical Officer Cecilia Müller said at a press conference yesterday, the number of people in hospital is an important indicator for the government when evaluating lockdown measures, which are up for review on Wednesday.

The number of tests applied in the past 24 hours was 10,144, the lowest in the past week, with a positivity rate of 38%.

The highest number of new cases, 501, was reported from Pest county yesterday, followed by Budapest with 490 and Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county with 407 cases. There were more than 5,600 new cases in Budapest over the past week and more than 4,000 in Pest county, with all other countries remaining below 2,000.

Late on Monday, the government re-introduced a separate shopping slot for the elderly in an effort to protect the vulnerable demographic.
