Budapest Airport prepares for ski season with new Swiss route
The Swiss aircraft will fly between Budapest and Geneva four times a week. Flights will be operated by newly refurbished Airbus A319. Passengers can now travel to three Swiss cities directly from Budapest Airport; Geneva, Basel and Zurich.
The launch was timed for the beginning of the peak season and many ski resorts of the Alps are now accessible from Budapest in just two-hours.
Swiss accepts ski equipment as checked baggage, free of charge to make easier the travel for the skiing holiday makers.
Budapest Airport currently offers passengers 101 destinations worldwide on four continents. Switzerland is an important European destination; 350 thousand passengers travel between Budapest and the small alpine country in 2007.
“The new flight will significantly increase competition on the Geneva route," said Budapest Airport Deputy CEO Dimitrios Gatsonis.
Passengers can travel to three Swiss cities directly from Budapest Airport: besides Swiss, Malév and easyJet also fly to Geneva, Swiss operates to Basel and Malév and Swiss both maintain scheduled flights to Zurich.
