Désirée Bonis joined the Dutch foreign service in 1986. Besides several stints at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague (mostly in the UN department), she served in the Dutch embassies in Egypt, Namibia and India. She also served as Ambassador to Syria (2006-2009), Morocco (2016-2020), Chargé d’Affaires a.i. in Italy (2021) and presently as the Dutch Ambassador to Hungary. Mrs Bonis studied Socio-Economic History, Spanish and Business Administration; she is married with two children.
