Gábor Orbán began his career as an economist at the Hungarian National Bank and the European Central Bank. He later worked as a portfolio manager and head of the bond division at Aegon Asset Management. For two and a half years, he served as state secretary for tax and financial affairs at the Hungarian Ministry for National Economy. From September 2015, he worked at Rothschild’s Paris bank. He studied at the Budapest University of Economics (currently Corvinus University of Budapest) and in the United States. Since September 2016, he has been the Director of Corporate Strategy at Gedeon Richter Plc, member of the Board of Directors since April 2017, and CEO of the company since November 1, 2017. Under his leadership, Gedeon Richter has achieved significant international growth, particularly in the U.S. and European markets. The company’s strategy has placed a strong emphasis on expanding its gynaecology portfolio and advancing biotechnology and innovative therapeutic developments. Gedeon Richter continuously seeks expansion opportunities in new geographic areas and product segments, thereby strengthening its global position. Gábor Orbán holds memberships in several organizations. Notably, he has been a member of the Budapest Stock Exchange Advisory Body since 2017, chairman of the Foundation for National Health Care and Medical Education since 2021, and a member of the Trilateral Commission Europe since 2024. In recognition of his outstanding work and contributions to Richter’s successful international growth, he was awarded the “Most Inspiring Leader of the Year Award” in 2025, based on PwC’s 14th Hungarian CEO Survey conducted in 2024. In 2025, he received the Officer’s Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit in recognition of his significant role in the Hungarian economy and healthcare industry. That same year, he was also awarded the Wahrmann Mór Medal for his outstanding contributions to supporting science and research and development.
