Hungary Parliament approves government restructuring
MPs voted 200 to 134 for the approval of the new government structure. Prior to pressing the buttons, Gábor Horn, a senior official of the liberal Free Democrats (SZDSZ) and former coalition liaison state secretary, said they were not delighted by the changes but would support it anyway.
“Not gladly, but we will vote for the government reshuffle," Horn said, adding Socialist Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány pledged that operating under the new structure would not cost more than the under the previous regime and that they would not appoint two secretaries of state into each ministry.
The Socialist Party would have been able to pass the draft law also without the SZDSZ, as the other opposition parties were not represented in full today. The proposal received 43 ‘no' votes and there were no abstentions.
