Tesco to eliminate non-recyclable packaging also in Hungary
As regards packaging materials Tesco is focusing on three main areas:
Tesco’s Little Helps Plan revealed in November 2018 set the goal of creating a closed loop system for packaging so everything can be re-used, recycled or re-purposed.
Matt Simister, Tesco CEO Central Europe, has confirmed the group’s goals for Central and Eastern Europe at the Retail Summit in Prague on Tuesday.
He noted that in 2017/18 Tesco cut food waste by 30% and donated 10,639 tonnes of food to food banks and local charity organisations. From now on, the priority is the reduction of packaging material waste.
- it has committed to remove all hard to recycle materials from its Own Brand packaging by the end of 2020;
- by 2025 it aims to make all packaging in Tesco fully recyclable or compostable;
- it seeks co-operation with other retailers, suppliers and packaging material producers and recycling industry players to make sure the largest volume of plastic packaging materials get recycled and reused.
