Number of Internet subscriptions grow in Hungary
There was a 3.5% year-on-year rise in the number of Internet subscriptions to 10.2 million by the end of the third quarter, and 69% of these were mobile subscriptions. The market is extremely concentrated, which is attested by the fact that 97% of the subscriptions were made at no more than ten service providers.
The telecom service providers’ market share in terms of mobile services has hardly changed. Since the end of 2015 Magyar Telekom has been market leader with a share of around 45%, followed by Telenor, whose market share dropped 2.5 percentage points, and Vodafone, whose market share rose 2 ppts in this area.
Whereas the other service providers did step up their presence, even their combined market share remains below 1%, the paper said, citing a mobile market report bythe National Media and Communications Authority (NMCA). The progress is reflected also in how much the companies have earned, as their combined revenue in the first three quarters of the year amounted to HUF 77 billion.
