COVID-19: Hungary has 301 new cases

Hungary had 301 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Wednesday and now has a total of 6,923, the official government portal reported on Thursday. One eldery patient has succumbed to the disease, taking the death toll to 620, while 3,930 people have recovered from coronavirus. The number of active cases went up to 2,373 from 2,100. Budapest accounted for 44% of active cases, 60% of the deceased and 42% of recovered patients. There are currently 100 people infected with coronavirus in hospitals, of whom seven require artificial ventilation.

Yesterday's 301 new confirmed cases marks the second highest figure after 365 on Tuesday.

One elderly patient has died, taking the death toll to 620.

The number of active cases went up by 273 to 2,373, also a new record. 100 patients are hospitalised, seven of whom are on ventilators.

Summit supercomputer, the second-fastest computer in the world, has analysed Covid-19 (2.5 billion genetic combinations), and the analysis of the results has led to a fascinating new theory. Dr. Daniel Jacobson, lead researcher and chief scientist for computational systems biology at Oak Ridge National Lab in Tennessee, the home of Summit, said it was a “eureka moment.” The findings may explain why ventilators have proven less effective in treating advanced Covid-19 than doctors originally expected, based on experiences with other viruses.

Most new cases were diagnosed in Budapest (116), followed by Pest county (42), Heves (21), Hajdú-Bihar (18), Fejér and Baranya (15 each), Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg (14), Győr-Moson-Sopron (11), and only Zala and Békés counties did not have new confirmed COVID-19 cases.

Over the last seven days, 730 new cases were diagnosed in the capital city, 205 in Pest county, 99 in Hajdú-Bihar county, 55 in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg and 56 in Győr-Moson-Sopron counties.
