Solar power plant with capacity enough for 5,500 households inaugurated in Hungary
László Levente Dajbukát, CEO of Greenergy, said at the inauguration ceremony that 21,000 photovoltaic modules and 44 inverters have been installed in the 20-hectare facility, which will produce 17 gigawatt-hours of electricity in the first year.
The solar power plant, which generates the equivalent of the average consumption of 5,500 households, uses a single-axis, daylight-tracking system that enables 15-20% higher solar energy utilization and more balanced production per year, he said.
He noted that the investment will reduce the country's energy dependency; the group aims to build a wind, solar and energy storage business in addition to its extensive natural gas-based power plant portfolio.
According to the company's statement, the investment was financed by HUF 5.7 billion of capital raised under the MNB's Bond Funding for Growth Scheme (BGS), which was the company's first public corporate bond issue in 2021.
The company, which was founded in 2007, started building power plants with the help of an American equity fund, and its first two-megawatt wind power plant was commissioned near Sopron in 2010. In 2020, the KÉSZ Group acquired a majority stake in the company, making it 100% Hungarian-owned, the CEO said.
The company's next 4MW solar power plant in Kiskunfélegyháza will be completed in 2023. The company's gas-fired power plants will have a capacity of 50 megawatts and will produce around 200 gigawatt-hours per year.
Greenergy owns or operates several low-emission decentralised power plants. The electricity generation of the small power plants is aggregated and controlled by the company's own power plant control centre, making the plants a virtual large power plant in the electricity and system regulation market.
The CEO told state-owned newswire MTI that the plans also include the construction of a 20 megawatt solar power plant, the location of which has not yet been disclosed.
In 2021, Greenergy Holding Asset Management Zrt. achieved net sales of HUF 10.5 billion and an after-tax profit of HUF 1 billion. According to the CEO, the company expects to double its revenue this year due to portfolio expansion and rising energy prices.
