33-year-old Opel showroom closes in Budapest, replaced by Chinese BYD
For decades, the name of the Schiller family has been almost synonymous with Opel, but after more than three decades of cooperation, the Chinese electric car BYD models will take over the showroom in the Váci út showroom in Újpest. Schiller is not completely breaking up with Opel either, as the company will continue to repair and service cars as a brand workshop, but will no longer be dealing with newly sold models as a separate car showroom.
The current group of companies has grown from a small artisan rubber workshop founded in 1980 to its current size, and has been an official Opel dealer since 1991 until recently. From February 2024, however, plug-in vehicles will take centre stage with the opening of BYD Schiller, while the company will continue to sell the full range of Toyota, Lexus, Skoda, and Fiat models.
In addition to servicing Audi and Volkswagen passenger cars and VW commercial vehicles, Schiller also carries out bodywork repairs and serves the mobility needs of its customers with its own rental car business and fleet management company.
The Schiller Car Family sees BYD and electric transport as a possible future and economic perspective for the automotive sector, both in terms of technology and sales, and therefore the car showroom in Pest will represent the Chinese brand in the future, the company said in a statement on Friday.
