Hungary minister urges immediate intervention due to flight delays, summons head of air traffic control
In the 21st century, it is unacceptable for passengers to spend long hours sitting in airports without being properly informed and cared for. This is unacceptable and immediate and concerted action is needed,
the statement reads.
In line with the expectations of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Márton Nagy has summoned the head of HungaroControl to immediately prepare an action plan to address the anomalies in order to resolve the situation as soon as possible.
As you know, airlines have mainly attributed the recent significant delays to extreme weather conditions and capacity constraints in European air traffic control, particularly Hungary's HungaroControl.
The Ministry of Justice announced yesterday that it is launching new consumer protection investigations into flight cancellations, mainly affecting Wizz Air and Ryanair.
The Economy Minister welcomed the fact that the consumer protection authority is investigating the activities of airlines as a matter of priority and expects further decisive action to eliminate unacceptable anomalies in the airline sector.
In addition, Márton Nagy asked Budapest Airport Zrt. to provide adequate facilities and infrastructure to ensure that passengers experience as little inconvenience as possible and their comfort is as high as possible.
And if necessary - even though it is not his job - to provide food and drinking water to families and tourists, often with young children, who are suffering delays.
