Hungary gov't official reveals dividend expectation for Budapest Airport

The return of Liszt Ferenc International Airport to Hungarian ownership is of strategic importance, said the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Prime Minister's Cabinet Office in a video posted on Facebook on Monday. He also said that the airport's dividend-paying capacity is HUF 30-35 billion.

Csaba Dömötör said that the strategic importance of the Budapest airport is demonstrated by the fact that its traffic has tripled in the last twenty years and is now approaching record levels before the Covid pandemic.

The airport generates profits for the country, and its dividend-paying capacity is HUF 30-35 billion, the state secretary stressed.

The runways are far from reaching their maximum capacity, so traffic could increase even further, he said, adding that "we are talking about 15 million passengers, which could double in the future".

Csaba Dömötör complained that a new terminal was not built under the previous owner and said that the terminal could be built now, and also said that the access to the airport should be improved. This was also discussed by the representatives of co-owner Vinci Airports and Márton Nagy at a joint press conference in early July.
