Budapest Airport reports record passenger traffic for February
New record for February
Following last year's annual traffic record and a record start in January, the significant increase in passenger numbers at Liszt Ferenc International Airport continued in February, Budapest Airport said in a press release today.
Although the last month of winter is usually the least busy period of the year,
passenger numbers in February this year reached 1,249,814, up 15.9% on last year's 1,075,552,
then the busiest February on record, while the combined total for the first two months is 16.7% higher than in 2024.
Budapest Airport has announced the launch of seven new flights since the beginning of the year, including an easyJet flight to the airport of Nantes, also part of the Vinci Airports network, and it is continuously working on launching new connections.
During this period, the most popular destinations were London, Istanbul, Rome, Paris and Milan,
BA said.
Cargo results outperform regional peers
Budapest Airport handled almost 300,000 tonnes of freight last year, ahead of its regional competitor, Vienna Airport.
The 29,063 tonnes handled in the second month of the year represents an increase of 44.3% compared to the same period last year,
while the total volume handled so far in 2025 is 51% higher than last year, surpassing both Vienna and Munich.
The driving force behind this robust growth is the fact that Budapest Airport has become the hub of East-Central Europe in recent years,
a role that has been consolidated not only thanks to the creation of world-class cargo infrastructure, but also to the cargo coming from Asia, especially China."
The airport currently has direct cargo connections with Shanghai, Hong Kong, Zhengzhou, Chengdu, Xi’an, Ezhou, Hangzhou, Shenzhen and Guangzhou.
Budapest Airport installed energy-generating indoor exercise bikes in the airport terminals in March, enabling passengers to charge their smart devices with the energy generated by cycling. Equipped with USB-A and USB-C connectors, the bikes allow passengers to connect their mobile phones and tablets using their own cables, and the displays enable them to monitor not only the charge level of their devices, but also their own cycling speed.
Two bikes are currently located in Pier 1 and in Terminals 2A and 2B. Three more, small bicycles designed for children will soon be added, bringing the total number of bikes available at the airport to nine.
