The number of employees in the Hungarian economy rose by 0.8% year on year to 2.766 million in the first quarter of the year, the Central Statistics Office (CSO) said on Tuesday.
The number of employees in the private sector increased by 1.4% to 1.9 million, while budgetary organisations employed 1.1% less people in January-March than in the corresponding period a year earlier, the CSO added.
The gross nominal wage went up by 9.4% in the first three months of the year, while net nominal wages rose 8.0%. Real wages were up by 1.1% (at a CPI of 6.8%) in January-March from the same period in 2003.
The gross nominal wage of employees in the private sector jumped by 14.4% in March alone and was up 11.5% year on year in the first quarter of 2004, the CSO said. The annual rise at budgetary organisations was 6.4% and 6.3%, respectively, in the same periods.
