Budapest's 5-star hotels have lots of guests, Balaton units high revenues in 2005
Budapest's four-star hotels had the highest average occupancy of 72.3% last year, compared with 70.1% in 2004. The occupancy rate of Budapest hotels was between 67-72% last year, up from 62-70% in 2004.
The lowest occupancy (44.6%) was registered in four- and five-star hotels in the eastern part of the country, while three- and four-star hotels at Lake Balaton reported room occupancy of 47.3% and 47.7%, respectively.
Gross room revenues of Hungarian hotels rose 16.6% year on year in 2005. Four-star hotels at Lake Balaton produced the largest increase (23.3% yr/yr), closely followed by three-star hotels in the eastern part of the country and five-star hotels in Budapest (19.8%). The gross room revenues of three-star hotels at Balaton edged up by a mere 2% from 2004.
Gross average room rate (Gross ARR) was HUF 15,210 last year, compared with HUF 13,878 in 2004. While Budapest's five-star hotels had gross ARR of HUF 32,690, this sum was between HUF 11,800 and HUF 15,000 on average in the capital's four-star an the country's four- and five-star hotels. Three-star units had gross ARR of HUF 6,600-9,100.
The average revenue per available room (REVPAR) came to gross HUF 9,158 in 2005, up from HUF 8,326 in 2004. Five-star hotels were on the top in the category as well (HUF 23,285), while three-star hotels at Lake Balaton were way behind (HUF 3,143).
The number of guest nights went up by 5.6% last year from 2004, which was significantly lower than the 10.4% year-on-year increase in 2004.
