Ambiguous outcome of Monday policy meeting in focus this week in Hungary (21-25 May)

Portfolio
The central bank's rate decision and fresh inflation report, both due on Monday, will be almost the sole important macroeconomic events this week in Hungary. Analysts in a Portfolio.hu poll were hugely divided about the outcome of today's policy meeting, finding possible both a 25-basis-point rate cut and a decision by the Monetary Council to leave the 8.00% base rate on hold.
The NBH will also publish its quarterly Report on Inflation, which is expected to shed light on the bank's viewpoint on the whitening of the economy and its impact on wages.
