Motor fuels price hike unlikely but possible this week in Hungary

Portfolio
Fuel rates have hardly changed on the exchanges last week and so Portfolio.hu does not believe Hungarian fuels group MOL will either raise or cut its prices this week, while a minor hike cannot be totally excluded.
In the seven days up to Friday afternoon gasoline rates ticked up by 0.2% and there was a decline of the same degree at diesel oil.

By late Friday, Hungary's forint eased marginally versus the USD to around 188.70 from around 188.30 a week earlier. Therefore in HUF terms there was an increase of 0.4% in the rates of both gasoline and diesel.

Fuels quotations have been changing hectically over the past six months which makes it nearly impossible to predict how MOL will react. Portfolio.hu, however, believes MOL will leave its prices intact this week.

At the same time we cannot exclude the possibility of a minor price hike, as the price of both motor fuels increased to a relatively large extent over the past three weeks, while MOL upped its prices by only HUF 4 and HUF 2 of gasoline and diesel, respectively. Consequently the company may choose to do some “catching up" this week.
