The number of new passenger car registrations stagnated in annual terms in Hungary in March. According to data by Datahouse, a total of 4,416 new cars were registered in the third month of 2011, 24 more than in the same month of 2010.
There is no turnaround on the horizon in Hungarian car sales. There was a mere 0.5% yr/yr growth registered in March, Datahouse reported.
On a more positive note, we should underline that sales in the base period were boosted by a major car fleet purchase by the police and despite this there was no decline in annual terms this March.
According to Datahouse figures, 500 Ford Focus models were delivered to the police in March 2010, while last month it bought only 50 Skoda Octavias RS models. This, however, does not change the fact that retail customers have virtually withdrawn from the new car market and the majority of sales are car fleet purchases by companies.
New car registrations rose by 11.6% yr/yr in the first quarter, with 11,401 cars sold.
