Huawei to step up production, set up supply centre in Hungary
Following a nearly two-year test run Huawei has launched the mass production of its network equipment and some mobile handsets in its Pécs plant (southwest Hungary), said Gavin Dai, managing director of Huawei Technologies Hungary Kft.
The company has also decided to establish its production and logistics services centre in Hungary. This unit will be Huawei’s second-largest supply base. The company operates such a supply center only in Brazil, Dai added.
Huawei kicked off trial assembly in the Pécs plant in May 2009. This unit will also be the European production base for Finnish electronics company Elcoteq that had more than 7,000 employees there before the crisis.
Huawei will supply from its Hungarian base its European and Middle Eastern markets. There are also plans that it will ship goods from here to the Commonwealth of Independent States and for North American mobile network projects, as well.
Huawei’s Europe Supply Centre (ESC) exported USD 600 million worth of products in 2010, which is expected to triple in 2011.
