Hungarian banks not withdrawing from talks with government on FX lending

Portfolio
The Hungarian Banking Association has stated that Hungarian banks will continue talks with the government on FX denominated lending despite moves by domestic authorities which banks said broke an agreement to freeze any new measures for now, Reuters reported.
The news comes after a report in local daily Magyar Nemzet that local lenders are pulling out of the talks, claiming the cabinet has breached a promise not to impose unilateral measures on banks.

Banks consider a government decision allowing employers to give tax-exempt financial assistance to employees wishing to repay their FX mortgages at below market rates as counter to an agreement that the cabinet will abstain from unilateral initiatives, the paper said.
