Russia's Putin to visit Hungary's PM Orbán in Budapest - paper

Portfolio
Russian President Vladimir Putin is to pay an official visit to Budapest in March, Hungarian daily newspaper Népszava has learned from various independent sources on Tuesday.
The exact date of Putin’s visit has not yet been set. The Prime Minister’s Office is currently co-ordinating Viktor Orbán’s domestic and foreign programmes to find a date suitable for both of them.

The paper reminded that German Chancellor Angela Merkel is coming to Hungary in February, on view of which Putin’s subsequent visit is all the more interesting. The Orbán-Putin meet is also thought-provoking in light of how Hungary’s relationship with the United States have been turning out lately.

Putin has also sent a message to Orbán for the new year:

He said he expects to maintain and intensifying the potentials in Russian-Hungarian relations, “which serves the basic interests of both countries and constitutes part of ensuring European stability and security."

Putin last was in Budapest in 2006, while Orbán met him twice in the Kremlin in Moscow in November 2010 and in February 2013.
