SPAR shops to remain open on OMV pumps around the clock despite legislation
OMV Hungária Ltd. currently owns 169 petrol stations in Hungary, 165 of which feature a shop too. These, however, are operated by local small businesses and they sell both motor fuels and non-fuel products. There are eight OMV pumps brandishing the SPAR sign and nine others will be doing the same soon. These, however, are not the stores of SPAR Hungary Ltd., as it is the operator of the petrol station that sells SPAR products there.
This means the latest amendment of the law prohibiting Sunday work in trade which was made particularly to prevent such exceptions fails to reach its goal. Thanks to this franchise system SPAR units may be open on OMV petrol stations 24-7. Unless the ruling Fidesz party decides to pass legislation stipulating specifically that SPAR and OMV cannot do this. Why not?
