Due to a massive flow of refugees the border crossing at Nickelsdorf (Miklóshalma) between Austria and Hungary has been closed in both directions on the A4 motorway early on Friday.
Road closed
Austria's motorway management company Asfinag said the closure will last indefinitely. There is no short way to get around the closed road as B10 towards Vienna has been closed earlier.
The company is asking motorists driving this way to be extra careful near the border and watch out for people waking on the road.

Traffic comes to a halt
A correspondent of public television M1 reported live from the scene that traffic on the A4 motorway linking Nickelsdorf (Miklóshalma in Hungarian) on the Austrian-Hungarian border with Vienna has practically come to a halt because a larger group of refugees/migrants have set off on foot on the motorway.
Around 6:30 A.M. several hundred people decided not to wait any longer for buses to take them to Vienna’s Westbanhof railway station and set off for the Austrian capital on foot. They were later joined by others. Some are walking on the road itself. The television channel noted that at least 10,000 people have arrived on the Austrian side of the border on Thursday and many of them have spent the night in a depo.
Trains stopped too
Austria's national railway operator announced yesterday that it is halting train traffic to and from Hungary due to “massive overburdening." It comes as Europe continues to face an escalating refugee crisis.
“We need to temporarily suspend the operation of trains to and from Hungary due to the massive congestion...until further notice, no tickets are available," Austrian Federal Railways wrote on its website.
