Hungary EcoMin calls off press conference on online cash registers
The ministry will hold the press conference at a later date.
Based on press reports and remarks by government officials over the last few weeks, Economy Minister Mihály Varga was expected to announce that the use of online cash registers will be made mandatory for additional services. The measure is expected to be carried out in two stages.
Under the measure another 30 000 to 50 000 new online cash registers would be put to use. In the first phase, starting this September, there would be a one-month trial run and the system would go live in October for service providers that already have the capacity to use regular online cash registers. The second deadline, which is unknown at this point, would be applied on those that need developments before implementing the new technology, e.g. cab drivers.The ministry did not say why it cancelled the press conference, but it likely has to do with the bombings in Brussels today morning.
Explosions tore through the departure hall of Brussels airport on Tuesday morning killing up to 10 people and injuring more than 30 others and a second blast struck a metro station in the capital shortly afterwards, the Belgian public broadcaster RTBF reported.
The blasts at the airport and metro station occurred four days after the arrest in Brussels of a suspected participant in November militant attacks in Paris that killed 130 people. Belgian police had been on alert for any reprisal action.
