Construction of Hungary's largest solar plant to start soon
As we reported last September, MVM member plans to deliver in the first quarter of 2018 its first solar plant that would be built in scope of a 50 billion forint programme aiming to set up 100 megawatts worth of solar capacity.
MVM Group member MVM Hungarowind Ltd. is gearing up for seven individual solar plant projects. The two largest investments would create two 20 MW photovoltaic plants, and the other five aim to build power plants across the country in all of the distribution licensee areas. This translates into 108 locations, with 0.5 MW capacity at each of them. The power to be generated by the photovoltaic plants would cover the annual electricity need of over 50,000 households. As a result of the new PV plants, the country’s CO2 emission would be reduced by more than 100,000 tonnes a year.
According to the latest reports, the municipality of Felsőzsolca has already nodded on MVM’s offer, and green-lighted the construction of Hungary’s largest PV power plant, with 20 MW capacity. The project includes the set-up of 74,000 solar panels, 460 inverters and 19 large transformers on a cc. 45-hectare (111 acre) plot.
