The Ambassador of the United States to Hungary has made positive remarks after his meeting with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán about the future of Central European University (CEU) in Budapest, atv.hu reported.
CEU will exist for many years, David Cornstein told after a two-hour discussion with PM Orbán on Monday evening.
The occasion was the first instance of a direct meeting between the two of them.
The U.S. Embassy in Hungary has released a statement about the meeting, saying “they discussed the importance of increasing cooperation and strengthening mutual trust between the leadership" of the two countries.
They have talked about other matters as well, including co-operation on security, energy security and the conflict between Russia and Ukraine (or as the Ambassador put it: “Russia’s aggression in Ukraine").
CEU is still open, it will be open tomorrow and I hope and I want it to remain so for many years to come. I feel that it will be so
, said Cornstein.

“This meeting was an important step in rebuilding trust and communication, and sets the foundation for continued high-level communications on the many important issues facing both countries," the embassy said in a statement.
