Hungary’s family protection action plan will cost the state 162 billion forints in 2020, and the economic protection action plan will absorb HUF 478 billion, according to the details of the 2020 draft budget submitted to Parliament the other day.
The cabinet has been preparing an initiative called ‘Citizens’ Budget’ for a few years now, presenting graphs and tables to show the main expenditure and revenue items, and the key characteristics of the budget.
The current document details the fiscal impacts of the family protection action plan and the economic protection action plan, i.e. how much the specific packages of measures would worsen the budget balance.
The cabinet argues in respect of the family support measure that by these “the state is assisting the execution of young people’s plans to start families and have children to on an unprecedented scale."
An explicit goal of the economic protection action plan is “to ensure that [Hungary’s] economic growth advantage of two percentage points over the European Union average is maintained even if the economies of the Eurozone and other partner countries slow down."
The document also reveals that safety reserves will reach 1% of GDP next year after this year’s 0.5%.
We have also learned from the breakdown of expenditure estimates that
the state budget will spend every fifth forint on financing pension payments, followed by social security and welfare services on the second place, and health care on the third.
