Hungary's debt fell even more than we thought
The preliminary accounts released in August indicated that debt fell below 70% for the first time since Eximbank is also included in the figure. The revisions published now show that debt stood at only 69.5% in March.
In the case of financial accounts, it is typical to amend figures substantially after revision, as preliminary data does not have the final quarterly GDP at its core and can only estimate the nominal amount. As economic growth has exceeded expectations in recent quarters, the final debt-to-GDP ratio is also regularly revised downwards.
Meanwhile, the nominal value of Hungary's debt keeps growing and was HUF 29,667 billion at the end of June, HUF 161 bn more than a quarter earlier and up nearly HUF 500 bn since January.
