36 new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) infection have been identified in Hungary since Sunday morning, the highest daily figure yet, bringing the total to 167, the official government site said Monday morning. The death toll is now at seven after an elderly man succumbed to the virus on Sunday, following two other deaths earlier in the day.

All 36 new cases are Hungarian citizens. The confirmed cases include 153 Hungarians and 10 Iranian, 2 British, 1 Kazakh and 1 Vietnamese citizens.

As the chart below shows, the virus is spreading faster in Hungary, although this might be correlated to the higher number of tests carried out. Authorities tested more than 1,100 people yesterday.

While Sunday's three fatalities have brought the death toll to 7, the number of recovered patients is now 16.

The website reiterates that the epidemic is in its second phase in Hungary, that of mass infections transferred through personal contact within the community, and the virus may be present everywhere in Hungary. The government has requested that the elderly, students, and everyone else who can stay at home.
