The daily increase has been 39 three time in the past six days, which indicates that the epidemic is spreading relatively slowly in Hungary, although the actual number of infections might be much higher.

Hungary is nearing the stage of mass infections when the number of infections will rise faster, Chief Medical Officer Cecília Müller said yesterday. Meanwhile, Ferenc Jakab, head of the national coronavirus research team, said virus defense was progressing at a good pace. As a result of measures taken so far and the disciplined behaviour of citizens, mathematical models now indicate that

the curve has been successfully flattened.

According to Müller, the epidemic is in its second phase in Hungary, that of group infections transferred through personal contact within the community, and the virus may be present anywhere and in anyone in Hungary. The number of infectious virus carriers exceeds diagnosed cases by a large margin. To contain the spread of the virus, the government has requested that the elderly, students, those returning from abroad, and everyone else who can stay at home. As the virus is most dangerous to the elderly, the government suggests that they stay home and ask the help of relatives or the local government to do their shopping.
