Chamber proposes limited reopening of retail stores
The MKIK released a statement late on Tuesday, listing the itemised proposals the chamber had made to Orbán. In the case of retail stores, they envision a floorspace-based reopening as follows:
One customer would be allowed per 5 or 10 sqm. For stores of more than 100 sqm, this could be increased to 15 or 20 sqm per person.
Separate rules are required for shopping centres and malls as the operation of these differ from that of other retail units, the chamber said.
In the case of services requiring physical contact (e.g. hairdressers, cobblers, laundries, etc.), a similar space-based regulation would be needed according to the MKIK. The usual virus defence measures would also apply, including distancing, disinfecting after each customer, and using protective gear. Only under these conditions could reopening be possible.
Another proposal would allow people with vaccination certificates more access to services, even including catering and tourism.
The chamber does not propose the re-introduction of separate shopping times for the elderly, the statement said.
