Inadequate protection of Sinopharm vaccine threatens fourth wave in Hungary
Those above 60 who have been vaccinated using the Sinopharm vaccine and have no antibodies also have no T-cell immunity, the voluntary testing of Videoton employees showed. The company paid for complex testing for those with no antibody protection.
One in three people above 60 who have been vaccinated using the Sinopharm vaccine had no measurable level of antibodies,
Sinkó said. These people have no protection at all against the coronavirus despite the two shots they received.
They would need a third dose immediately, but the current rules do not allow this.
RTL Klub interviewed virologist professor Miklós Rusvai on the issue. The fact that some of those vaccinated with Sinopharm are not protected “could strongly contribute to a fourth wave of the pandemic and could determine how high the next wave will be,” Rusvai said, adding that the question is how many people will have a false sense of security regarding their level of protection.
These people have a document showing that they are immune but they are actually not,
he said, adding that they should be vaccinated again before October as prevention.
A survey obtained by Telex is also concerning in this regard. A survey of 450 people found that many of those vaccinated with Sinopharm have no antibody protection. (T-cells were not tested.) While 90% of those under 60 had antibodies two to three weeks after the second Sinopharm jab, the ratio was only around 60% in people above 70. The comparative statistical analysis came from a Budapest laboratory carrying out antibody tests.
The Videoton survey went one step beyond as it also involved the costly T-cell immunity test. The results show that people with no antibodies also have no T-cell immunity.
