Belarusian President claims two NATO countries planned to "attack Russia in the back"
The Belarusian leader claimed, according to RIA Novosti, that Poland and Lithuania wanted to use the situation in Ukraine to penetrate Belarus "by air and land" and "attack Russia from behind."
"I told them: we will not be traitors. We will not allow you to attack the Russian people in the back," said Lukashenko.
There is no evidence whatsoever for Lukashenko's statements and, for the time being, what he said cannot be interpreted as anything other than further unnecessary tension in an already difficult situation.
The Ukrainian Presidency has said that more than 40 soldiers have been killed since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began -- and a few dozen injured, CNN reported.
Oleksiy Arestovych, an adviser in the President’s Office, said that in addition to the military casualties, “as far as I know, at the moment there are a few civilian deaths -- up to ten.”
The Ukrainian armed forces have also recently reported on social media the losses of the Russian "occupiers". The Ukrainian Armed Forces announced on its official Twitter page that they have destroyed six aircraft and two helicopters.
In the town of Sastia in Luhansk, the Ukrainian army reportedly repelled an attack in which two tanks were taken out and some 50 Russian occupiers were killed.
