MVM Group to build 28 new solar power plants across Hungary
The opening event of the project was held in Oroszlány, as most of the 0.5 megawatt (MW) units will be installed there, 15 of them in the plant's waste area, on land that cannot be used for agriculture, the company's group manager told MTI.
According to György Edelman, the power plants will be able to produce 69,000 gigajoules (GJ) of electricity per year, enough to meet the annual electricity needs of more than 8,000 households, while reducing the country's carbon dioxide emissions by 19,000 tonnes per year. The nominal capacity of the system will be 13,911 MW.
The total planned cost of the investment is HUF 6.7 billion, for which the European Union is providing HUF 2.098 billion in non-reimbursable aid under the Environmental and Energy Efficiency Operational Programme. Each power plant unit covers an area of 1.0-1.5 hectares (2.47-3.7 acres). The MVM Group's renewable energy subsidiary, MVM Green Generation Ltd., typically builds the plants as brownfield investments on unused power plant sites or on land leased from municipalities.
The power plants will be built in the following ten municipalities: Berettyóújfalu, Dánszentmiklós, Dorog, Kunszállás, Nyírcsaholy, Oroszlány (15 units), Pécs (5 units), Pusztaföldvár, Sükösd and Vésztő. The power plants are scheduled to start commercial operation in the first half of next year, with a planned lifetime of 25 years, the group manager said.
