Hungarian taxi drivers demand a tariff increase, negotiations today
They would like to present the proposals to Deputy Mayor Ambrus Kiss together with several taxi organisations, including the Taxi Section of the National Trade Union (NSZ). The President of the NSZ, Tamás Bajzik, told Népszava that the tariff proposals take economic laws into account, which are based on the principle of market supply and demand.
He said that there is "no problem" with the system of official prices and that they want to maintain it, but that they miss the "automatism" when it comes to changes (increases). Bajzik also wrote that "the supply side can no longer cope with the costs", so they are definitely calling for an increase. But they did not say how much.
NSZ has already made its demands public in recent days. In addition to the tariff agreement, they are calling for a tax cut, a maximum number of taxi licences and a limit on the number of taxi firms.
The OTSZ, however, is not thinking about tax cuts, but about a "relatively new form of taxation", which has been developed together with the Chamber of Commerce of Budapest. They ask that the tax exemption limit for professions using "fuel to a greater extent" be raised from HUF 12 million to HUF 18 million a year, Népszava writes.
