Aldi continues withdrawal from Denmark
Aldi has now announced that it will sell 11 more stores to the Salling group, 4 to Lidl and 1 to Coop.
Salling owns the Føtex and Bilka stores. Coop's chains currently include Kvickly, SuperBrugsen and Irma, although Coop is in the process of a rebranding exercise which will see some of these names disappear.
The latest changes have also been confirmed by the companies concerned.
With the closure of the Aldi stores, the German company will withdraw from Denmark.
The shops concerned are holding a sale as they approach their closing date. Of the 2800 employees in Denmark, 1750 will keep their jobs, Aldi stated.
The Rema 1000 discount chain - part of the Reitan Retail group - will be the largest grocery chain in Denmark. The value of the transaction is not known, but prior to the deal Rema 1000 had around 330 grocery stores in Denmark.
The Aldi concerned belongs to the Nord group. There are two Aldi companies in Germany, Nord and Süd. They split up in the 1960s. Aldi Süd is the sole owner of the Hungarian Aldi company.
