Third motorway link between Hungary and Romania to be created
Ilie Bolojan, President of the Bihor County Council, has recently signed the financing contract for the technical design of the Arad-Oradea motorway, the press release quotes Mihály Zalai (Fidesz-KDNP), President of the Békés County Assembly.
The planned four-lane road will run for more than 120 kilometres, but the project will include a 5 km link to Salonta. In addition, a 3-kilometre link will be built with Arad, and a nearly 10-kilometre link road to the border crossing with Hungary (Salonta-Békéscsaba) will be built. The total length of the road will thus reach 138 kilometres.
To date, there are two motorway links between Hungary and Romania. The first one was opened in 2015, connecting the Hungarian M43 motorway and the Romanian A1 motorway (Csanádpalota-Nădlac II), and in 2020 the Hungarian M4 motorway and the Romanian A3 motorway were connected by a crossing (Nagykereki-Bors II).
The third crossing is planned to be built in the area of Csenger and Oar, and will connect the Satu Mare Mare ring road with the motorway branching off the M3 motorway. The fourth crossing would be the Békés link, which has reached another important point with the signing of the financing contract, according to MTI.
