Poland extends control on Slovakian border
Poland has introduced temporary, random checks at the Slovakian border from 4 October in response to increasing migratory pressure.
Kaminski told Polish public radio Polskie Radio 1 that the measure, which was in force until Friday,
will be extended for a further 20 days until 2 November.
The move is in line with the Schengen Code and will be communicated to the European Commission on Thursday, he added.
The tightened border controls have so far had good results and a clear impact, with around 550 illegal immigrants arrested, the minister said.
Following the introduction of temporary random checks at the common border with Slovakia, Poland has restricted border crossings to nine road crossings, three rail crossings and ten pedestrian crossings.
On Wednesday, the Czech Republic also announced that checks at its border with Slovakia had been extended until 2 November.
