Hungary to receive EU funding to handle migration
The Commission will provide 141 million euros of funding for fiber optics and software to improve data exchange and processing between border posts and command centers (Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Lithuania and Hungary), electronic surveillance equipment at border posts (Bulgaria, Latvia and Lithuania) and the deployment of mobile detection equipment (Bulgaria, Lithuania and Greece), under the Border Management and Visa Instrument (BMVI) call.
Further funding actions have been identified for EU member states requiring support (Romania, Poland, Estonia, Bulgaria, Spain and Lithuania). Depending on the availability of BMVI funding, the Commission will seek to provide this support.
Funding will be part of national programmes. Actions can start immediately and will be implemented by national agencies or civil society partner organisations such as NGOs or the UN.
