Record expensive Hungarian motorway construction project announced

The last completed section of the M76 project was handed over in March 2022, but construction work has since stopped, so only 8.6 km of the total 55-kilometre section of the road has been completed so far: between the M7 exit at Hollád and Fenékpuszta.

The connection of Zalaegerszeg to the national motorway network will start next year, and

the total cost of the construction of the 44-kilometre section is estimated at HUF 400 billion,

János Lázár said at a press event. 

Although no government decision on the subject has yet been published, if the costs are really that high, the remaining section of the M76 would cost HUF 9.2 billion per kilometre, easily dethroning the current record-breaking M6 motorway.
