China's BYD is not to manufacture batteries in Hungarian plant after all
According to industry sources speaking to the newspaper on condition of anonymity, the battery parts will be assembled in Szeged and put into the cars, so
there chemical industry activity will be carried out there.
The rationale behind the decision is that the graphite used for production would have to be imported from China anyway, with the result that there is little cost difference between the raw material and the components being shipped to Hungary.
Not to mention that this way BYD will not have to build a new factory with millions of euros, Népszava has learned.
