Hungarian e-tailers turn to the Competiton Authority over Temu
In the domestic e-commerce sector, there is concern about the penetration of the Asian company Temu in Hungary, whose methods are questioned by many. Ecommerce Hungary, one of the most prominent Hungarian e-commerce associations, is turning to the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) to draw attention to Temu's activities and seek further support.
Temu, a subsidiary of PDD Holdings, has shown significant growth in recent months, not only globally but also in Europe. It is already competing in the Hungarian market with larger online stores such as Alza and eMAG. The company's strategy of offering its products at sometimes significant losses and its flexibility in relation to EU and national legislation is a major headache for domestic players.
According to Zoltán Ormós, Vice President of Ecommerce Hungary, Temu's activities have been found to be in breach of the law, which would have caused problems for a domestic webshop long ago. Although no specific cases were mentioned, Ormós stressed that merchants interested in the details will be able to find out more from the complaint.
