Fuel prices to go up for the second time this week in Hungary

Portfolio
Hungarian energy group Mol is to raise the wholesale gross list price of both petrol and diesel on Friday, fuel price racking site holtankoljak.hu reported on Wednesday. This comes on the back of a hike effective today.

The wholesale gross list price of petrol has just gone up HUF 5 per litre today and will be raised further by HUF 7 per litre on Friday. The price of diesel is now HUF 2 per litre higher than yesterday, and a HUF 5 hike is due on Friday (22 March). Accordingly, we should find the following (average) retail prices at the pumps two days from now:

  • 95-octane petrol: HUF 631/litre
  • Diesel: HUF 648/litre

After the price hike the price of petrol will be HUF 61 (10.7%) higher than at the end of 2023, while the price of diesel will be HUF 55 (9.3%) higher. Comparing prices to the end of 2022 may make us nostalgic, although petrol was only HUF 8 per litre cheaper, while diesel cost HUF 65 per litre less), but looking further back can be rather bitter.

This is how Hungarian fuel prices currently compare to prices in neighbouring countries:
