Debt levels of public bodies are still very high - State Treasury
For hospitals, the debt stock decreased from HUF 58.2 billion in May to HUF 48 billion in June, so there may have been a limited amount of debt settlement. It is also worth noting that the end-June figure does not include the debts of the four university hospitals that are owned by foundations (Debrecen, Szeged, Pécs and the Semmelweis clinics in the capital), although they are also run with budget money and their debts typically used to be around HUF 15-20 billion in the past, when they were reported by the MÁK.
The current debt ranking is headed by police forces, with the Police Standby Forces at the top of the league table with HUF 4.7 billion. Behind it comes the National Police Headquarters (ORFK) with HUF 4.2 billion, followed by the Budapest Police Headquarters (BRFK) with HUF 3.6 billion. According to data from the MÁK, the police had an outstanding debt of HUF 23.3 billion, while prisons had a debt of HUF 4.2 billion.
The list also shows that 96% of the debt was incurred by the budget institutions of the Ministry of the Interior, which oversees the police as well as the health sector.
