Ten railway stations to be refitted in Hungary
The novelty of the programme lies in the separation of railway functions and commercial activities. Private investors will be brought into the latter area, creating the opportunity for a modern, multifunctional facility.
The Debrecen railway station should be imagined as a kind of shopping mall, part of it a rail arrival point, the rest as part of shops, commercial service units,
János Lázár explained the concept.
The Minister stressed that domestic and local private capital is expected for the investment. The opportunity will be put out to tender through an open tender procedure. The programme is not limited to Debrecen, but also includes Győr and Szeged.
János Lázár underlined the strategic importance of Debrecen, referring to the city's economic attractiveness and job-creating potential. A few weeks earlier he called Debrecen the second capital of the country.
