Hungary's Orbán announces yet another tax cut
From January 2026, mothers under 30 with one child will pay no income tax,
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced on Facebook after today's cabinet meeting.
We hope that more children will be born, but we also have a more easily understandable goal, and that is to ensure that mothers who have children and are raising them are not worse off financially than those who do not have children, he said, explaining the background to the decision.
In recent weeks, the government decided to exempt mothers with two or three children from paying personal income tax. Balázs Hankó, Minister of Culture and Innovation, said earlier that from January 2026 all mothers under 30 will be exempt from paying personal income tax on their entire income. The politician recalled that two years ago the government decided that mothers under 30 would be exempt from PIT up to their average salary,
but it has now been decided that their entire income will be tax-free.
Orbán said a dozen issues were discussed at today's cabinet meeting, the most important of which was the tax exemption for mothers under 30.
