Hungarian gov't to establish Battery Industry Market Surveillance Authority
According to the Hungarian Official Gazette published late Wednesday, the government has cited several European Union directives and regulations, stating that the implementation of specific member state obligations related to battery production requires additional national tasks, demanding coordinated regulatory powers and comprehensive battery industry competence.
The establishment of the new authority will require the Minister of National Economy, Márton Nagy, to allocate HUF 6.07 billion as a one-off payment in 2026 and HUF 5.82 billion in 2027 from the budget.
The Minister of National Economy must prepare a proposal by 30 September for establishing the Battery Industry Market Surveillance Authority and Competence Centre, in collaboration with the Minister of Energy and Innovation, and with the involvement of the executive of the Hungarian Battery Association.
In a separate government resolution, the
state-owned railway company MÁV will receive a capital increase of HUF 14.37 billion this year for infrastructure developments related to the expansion of Szeged's industrial area.
This investment aims to develop railway and road infrastructure suitable for handling finished goods and container traffic.
Furthermore, at the initiative of János Lázár, Minister of Construction and Transport, the Minister of National Economy must provide an additional HUF 5.7 billion in extra funding for these tasks this year and next year.
