Foot-and-mouth disease: Restrictions lifted at Slovak and Austrian borders

MTI
Restrictions introduced due to foot-and-mouth disease have been lifted at the Slovakian and Austrian borders. Meanwhile, Croatia continues to maintain temporary border controls, according to an announcement by Hungary's National Police Headquarters (ORFK) on Wednesday on police.hu.

From 15 April, drivers transporting hoofed animals or products derived from them can only use two border crossing points in Croatia: Udvar and Letenye, where all such vehicles will be disinfected.

Mandatory cleaning, washing and disinfection measures also apply to empty road vehicles used for transporting live animals susceptible to foot-and-mouth disease, or for transporting raw milk.

These vehicles must be disinfected before entering Croatia and obtain official certification to this effect, which must be presented upon request by the relevant authority.

There are still no personal checks at the Hungarian-Croatian border.

According to information from Slovakian and Austrian partner agencies, border measures related to the inspection of animal transport vehicles for foot-and-mouth disease were lifted at midnight on Tuesday.

As a result, traffic has resumed at the Hungary-Austria and Hungary-Slovakia border crossings, though longer waiting times can be expected.
