Aldi incurs rough loss in Hungary
The company's turnover increased from HUF 490.2 billion in 2023 to HUF 518.4 billion in 2024 — a rise of HUF 28 billion (5.8%).

In line with turnover, the cost of goods sold (COGS) also increased, rising to HUF 380 billion in 2024 from HUF 361.9 billion in 2023 — an increase of HUF 18.2 billion. It can therefore be calculated that
Aldi's margin increased slightly to 26.7% from 26.2%.
To calculate this, simply subtract the cost of goods sold from the net sales revenue, then divide this figure by the sales revenue. One disadvantage of this method is that services contracted by retailers from suppliers, such as packaging and logistics, can make comparisons difficult, but it still provides a good indication of how each chain operates.
The company's material costs decreased to HUF 8.7 billion in 2024 from HUF 9.1 billion in 2023, representing a saving of HUF 0.4 billion.

Wages
However, personnel expenditure increased significantly, reaching 40.9 billion HUF in 2023 and 47.7 billion HUF in 2024 — an increase of 6.8 billion HUF (16.6%).
EBIT
The operating result was negative in both years. ALDI closed with losses of HUF 13.4 billion and HUF 24.7 billion in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
HUF 26.7 billion in taxes
The increase in regulatory costs is also reflected in the EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) fee, which rose to HUF 215 million last year from HUF 112 million in 2023. Tax payments amounted to HUF 26.7 billion.
Massive loss
After incurring a loss of HUF 9.5 billion in 2023,
aldi's loss reached HUF 27.4 bn in 2024.
Aldi's report does not explain the loss, but it is thought that retail tax weighed heavily on it.
